A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that elevates drooping eyebrows, smooths horizontal forehead wrinkles, and reduces the deep frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows. The goal is to restore a more youthful, refreshed, and open appearance to the upper third of the face.
As we age, the brow descends gradually due to gravity, loss of skin elasticity, and weakening of the forehead muscles. A dropped brow can make you look tired, angry, or older than you feel — even when well-rested. Heavy brows also push down on the upper eyelids, creating a hooded appearance that may obstruct peripheral vision in severe cases.
While Botox can temporarily lift the brow by relaxing the muscles that pull it downward, the effect lasts only 3 to 4 months and provides modest elevation (1 to 2 mm). A surgical brow lift delivers a more significant, permanent elevation (3 to 8 mm) and addresses forehead wrinkles and frown lines at the same time.
At MedProper Istanbul, brow lift surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons with extensive facial surgery experience. The most popular technique — the endoscopic brow lift — involves minimal incisions hidden within the hairline, faster recovery, and natural-looking results.

For comparison, an endoscopic brow lift in the UK costs £4,000 to £6,500 at a private clinic. In the USA, prices range from $5,000 to $8,000. Even after adding flights — £100 to £250 from London or $400 to $700 from the USA — MedProper's all-inclusive cost is roughly half the UK price.

The most commonly performed technique at MedProper. The surgeon makes 3 to 5 small incisions (each about 1 cm) behind the hairline. An endoscope (tiny camera) is inserted to visualise the forehead tissues on a monitor. The surgeon releases the brow from the underlying bone, repositions it at a higher level, and secures it with small absorbable devices.
Advantages: Minimal scarring (hidden in the hairline), shorter recovery, less numbness, natural result. Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours. Best for: Most patients. The standard approach for moderate brow descent without excessive forehead skin.
Focuses on lifting only the outer (lateral) portion of the brow — the area that droops most noticeably with age. Two small incisions are hidden in the temple hairline. This technique specifically opens the eye area and creates a subtle, youthful arch without affecting the central brow.
Advantages: Shortest recovery of all brow lift techniques, minimal scarring. Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour. Best for: Patients with lateral brow hooding who do not need central forehead correction. Also popular as a complement to upper blepharoplasty.
A continuous incision from ear to ear across the top of the scalp, hidden within the hairline. The forehead skin is lifted as a single flap, excess skin is removed, and the brow is repositioned. This was the traditional technique and provides the most dramatic lift.
Advantages: Maximum lift, addresses the entire forehead. Disadvantages: Longer scar, higher risk of permanent scalp numbness, longer recovery. Best for: Patients with very heavy brow descent and deep forehead wrinkles. Rarely performed today due to the effectiveness of endoscopic alternatives.
A brow lift may be right for you if:
Many patients confuse brow descent with upper eyelid excess. The distinction is important:

| Period | What Happens | Recommendations |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1-3 | Forehead swelling and tightness. Possible bruising around the eyes. Mild headache. | Head elevated at all times. Ice packs. Prescribed pain medication. |
| Days 4-7 | Swelling moves downward (may cause puffy eyelids temporarily). Bruising begins to fade. | Light walking. Avoid bending or straining. Keep head elevated when sleeping. |
| Weeks 2-3 | Most swelling and bruising resolved. You can fly home and return to work. | Normal light activities. No strenuous exercise. Avoid direct sun on the forehead. |
| Weeks 4-6 | Forehead feeling returns to normal. Incision sites healing. | Moderate exercise permitted. Scar massage if recommended. |
| Months 2-3 | Final brow position established. Forehead wrinkles improved. | Full exercise resume. |
| Months 6-12 | Scars fully matured and hidden within the hairline. Result is long-lasting. | No restrictions. |
When can you fly home? Most patients fly home 5 to 7 days after an endoscopic brow lift. Temporal brow lift patients may fly as early as day 4.
