Types of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Blepharoplasty

Removes excess skin (and sometimes fat) from the upper eyelids. The incision is hidden in the natural eyelid crease and becomes virtually invisible once healed.

Addresses: Hooded eyelids, heavy or drooping upper lids, excess skin that may impair vision. Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour (both eyes). Anaesthesia: Local or general. Recovery: Bruising and swelling for 7 to 10 days. Most patients return to work within 10 to 14 days.

Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours. Recovery: 10 to 14 days of bruising and swelling.

Double Eyelid Surgery (Asian Blepharoplasty)

Creates or enhances the supratarsal crease in patients who have a monolid (no visible crease) or a very low crease. This is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in East Asia and is also popular among patients of Southeast Asian descent. The surgeon creates a defined crease in the upper eyelid, making the eyes appear larger and more open.

Fox Eyes Surgery (Canthopexy)

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Eyelid surgery may be right for you if:

• Excess skin on the upper eyelids creates a hooded or tired appearance
• Under-eye bags or puffiness that does not respond to sleep, hydration, or skincare
• Impaired peripheral vision due to severe upper lid sagging
• You are over 35 — though younger patients with genetic concerns may be candidates
• Good general health and no uncontrolled eye conditions (dry eye, glaucoma, thyroid eye disease)
• Non-smoker or willing to stop at least 2 weeks before surgery
• Realistic expectations — blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eye area but does not eliminate crow's feet or lift the brow
