Eyelid Surgery in Turkey (Blepharoplasty): Complete Guide 2026

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. The goal is to rejuvenate the eye area — eliminating drooping upper lids that make you look tired, removing puffy bags beneath the eyes, and restoring a more alert, youthful appearance.

The eyes are the first facial feature people notice, and they are also one of the first to show signs of ageing. By the age of 40, many people develop hooded upper lids, under-eye bags, or both. In some cases, upper lid sagging becomes severe enough to impair peripheral vision — turning an aesthetic concern into a functional problem.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed facial procedures worldwide. It delivers dramatic visual improvement with relatively short recovery, minimal scarring (incisions are hidden in the natural eyelid crease), and long-lasting results.

At MedProper Istanbul, eyelid surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons in a JCI-accredited hospital. We offer upper, lower, and four-eyelid blepharoplasty under either local or general anaesthesia, as well as fox eyes surgery (canthopexy) for patients seeking an almond-shaped eye contour.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Blepharoplasty

Removes excess skin (and sometimes fat) from the upper eyelids. The incision is hidden in the natural eyelid crease and becomes virtually invisible once healed.

Addresses: Hooded eyelids, heavy or drooping upper lids, excess skin that may impair vision. Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour (both eyes). Anaesthesia: Local or general. Recovery: Bruising and swelling for 7 to 10 days. Most patients return to work within 10 to 14 days.

Upper blepharoplasty is the most commonly performed eyelid procedure and can be done as a standalone procedure or combined with a brow lift for patients whose brow descent contributes to upper lid heaviness.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Addresses puffiness, bags, and wrinkles beneath the eyes. The surgeon may remove or reposition fat pads that cause under-eye bags and tighten the skin for a smoother, more rested appearance.

Two approaches:

  • Transcutaneous: Incision just below the lower lash line. Allows skin removal and fat repositioning. Best for patients with both excess skin and fat bags.
  • Transconjunctival: Incision inside the lower eyelid (no external scar). Fat is removed or repositioned without skin excision. Best for younger patients with puffy bags but good skin elasticity.

Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour. Recovery: Bruising and swelling for 10 to 14 days.

Four-Eyelid Blepharoplasty

A combined upper and lower blepharoplasty performed in a single session. This is the most comprehensive eye rejuvenation procedure and is recommended for patients who have both upper lid hooding and lower lid bags.

Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours. Recovery: 10 to 14 days of bruising and swelling.

Double Eyelid Surgery (Asian Blepharoplasty)

Creates or enhances the supratarsal crease in patients who have a monolid (no visible crease) or a very low crease. This is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in East Asia and is also popular among patients of Southeast Asian descent. The surgeon creates a defined crease in the upper eyelid, making the eyes appear larger and more open.

Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours. Recovery: 1 to 2 weeks.

Fox Eyes Surgery (Canthopexy)

Lifts the outer corners of the eyes to create an upswept, almond-shaped appearance. The surgeon tightens the lateral canthal tendon to elevate the outer eye corner. Often combined with a temporal brow lift for a more pronounced effect.

Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours. Recovery: 10 to 14 days.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Eyelid surgery may be right for you if:

  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids creates a hooded or tired appearance
  • Under-eye bags or puffiness that does not respond to sleep, hydration, or skincare
  • Impaired peripheral vision due to severe upper lid sagging
  • You are over 35 — though younger patients with genetic concerns may be candidates
  • Good general health and no uncontrolled eye conditions (dry eye, glaucoma, thyroid eye disease)
  • Non-smoker or willing to stop at least 2 weeks before surgery
  • Realistic expectations — blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eye area but does not eliminate crow's feet or lift the brow

Blepharoplasty vs Brow Lift

If your hooded appearance is caused by a dropped brow pushing skin onto the upper lid, a brow lift may be more appropriate than blepharoplasty — or the two may be combined. Your MedProper surgeon will assess both during the consultation.

Recovery Timeline

PeriodWhat HappensRecommendations
Days 1-3Swelling and bruising around the eyes. Eyes may feel tight and watery.Cold compresses. Prescribed eye drops. Sleep with head elevated. No screens for extended periods.
Days 4-7Swelling peaks then begins to reduce. Bruising changes colour (purple to yellow).Light activities. Sunglasses outdoors. No makeup on the eye area.
Weeks 2-3Most bruising resolved. Swelling significantly reduced. You can fly home and return to work.Normal daily activities. Light makeup can be applied.
Weeks 4-6Eyes look refreshed and natural. Incision lines fading.Moderate exercise resume.
Months 3-6Final result visible. Scars virtually invisible in the eyelid crease. No restrictions.

When can you fly home? Most patients fly home 5 to 7 days after eyelid surgery.

Is eyelid surgery painful?

Under local anaesthesia, you feel no pain — only mild pressure. Under general anaesthesia, you are asleep. Post-operative discomfort is mild: tightness, watery eyes, and sensitivity to light for a few days. Standard eye drops and mild pain medication manage this effectively.

Will eyelid surgery leave visible scars?

Upper blepharoplasty scars are hidden in the natural eyelid crease and become virtually invisible within 2 to 3 months. Lower blepharoplasty scars sit just below the lash line (transcutaneous) or are entirely internal (transconjunctival).

How long do blepharoplasty results last?

Upper blepharoplasty results typically last 7 to 15 years. Lower blepharoplasty results are often permanent, as under-eye fat pads rarely re-accumulate once removed. Natural ageing continues, but from a rejuvenated starting point.

Can I combine eyelid surgery with other procedures?

Yes. Common combinations include blepharoplasty + brow lift, blepharoplasty + facelift, and blepharoplasty + fox eyes surgery. Combining procedures means one recovery period and lower total cost.

How much does fox eye surgery cost in Turkey?

Fox eyes surgery (canthopexy) starts from £1,796 / $2,289 / €2,100 all-inclusive at MedProper.
