Ear pinning surgery under local anaesthesia
Ear pinning surgery under general anaesthesia
At MedProper Istanbul, otoplasty starts from £1,495 / $1,910 / €1,750 under local anaesthesia and from £1,965 / $2,510 / €2,300 under general anaesthesia in 2026. All prices are all-inclusive, covering the surgeon fee, hospital or procedure room, hotel, VIP transfers, and follow-up care.
Otoplasty in the USA typically costs $4,000 to $7,500 at a private clinic. At MedProper, the same procedure costs from $1,910 (local anaesthesia) or $2,510 (general anaesthesia) all-inclusive. After adding a return flight ($400 to $700 via Turkish Airlines from New York or other major cities), the total spend is roughly half the US price.
The price difference reflects lower hospital operating costs, a favourable exchange rate, and high cosmetic surgery volume in Turkey — not a quality gap. MedProper operates in a JCI-accredited hospital with the same safety standards as top UK and US facilities.
Under local anaesthesia, you feel no pain during the procedure — only mild pressure and tugging. Under general anaesthesia, you are completely asleep. After surgery, most patients describe the discomfort as mild to moderate tightness, well-controlled with standard pain medication. Most patients stop needing painkillers within 3 to 5 days.
The procedure takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the complexity of the correction and whether one or both ears are treated. Most otoplasties at MedProper are bilateral (both ears).
Yes. Otoplasty results are permanent. Once the cartilage is reshaped and secured, the ears maintain their new position. The cartilage does not grow back or return to its previous shape. Revision rates at MedProper are below 2 per cent.
Otoplasty incisions are placed behind the ear, in the natural crease where the ear meets the head. The scars are hidden from view and fade to thin, pale lines within 6 to 12 months. They are virtually invisible, even with short hairstyles.
Yes. While otoplasty is often associated with children, it is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures among adults. There is no upper age limit. Many adult patients have wanted the procedure for years and finally decide to have it done. The procedure and recovery are virtually identical for adults and children.
Otoplasty can be performed from age 5, when the ear cartilage has reached approximately 90 per cent of its adult size. Early correction is often recommended to prevent bullying and self-consciousness during school years. MedProper requires parental consent and a pre-operative assessment confirming the child's physical and emotional readiness.
Both options are available at MedProper. Local anaesthesia (you are awake but feel no pain) is suitable for most adults and older teenagers. General anaesthesia is recommended for children, anxious patients, or complex cases. Your surgeon will advise during the consultation. The choice of anaesthesia does not affect the surgical result.
Most patients fly home 4 to 5 days after surgery. By this point, the initial bandage has been removed, the follow-up appointment is complete, and you are wearing the protective headband. Flying is safe and comfortable.
Light walking is encouraged from day one. Gentle exercise (gym, cycling, yoga) can resume at 3 to 4 weeks. Contact sports, swimming, and activities where the ears could be hit or folded should be avoided for 6 to 8 weeks.
MedProper recommends wearing the protective headband 24 hours a day for the first 2 weeks, then at night only for an additional 4 weeks. The headband protects the ears during sleep and prevents accidental folding while the cartilage heals in its new position.
Yes. If only one ear protrudes or if there is significant asymmetry, unilateral otoplasty (one ear only) is an option. Your surgeon will assess both ears during the consultation and recommend whether one or both should be treated for the best symmetrical result.
Look for: board certification in plastic surgery, ISAPS or TSAPS membership, experience with ear reshaping specifically, before-and-after photo gallery, JCI-accredited operating facility, and a named surgeon guarantee. MedProper provides all of these and assigns your surgeon before you book with full credentials available for review.
Yes. Every MedProper otoplasty is offered as an all-inclusive package: surgeon fee, operating facility, anaesthesia, hospital stay (if applicable), four- to five-star hotel, VIP airport transfers, pre-operative tests, post-operative medications, headband, and follow-up care. The quoted price is the total price.
