What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a customised combination of surgical procedures designed to restore the body after pregnancy, breastfeeding and the physical demands of motherhood. Rather than addressing one concern at a time, a mommy makeover tackles multiple areas in a single operation — typically the abdomen, breasts and stubborn fat deposits that diet and exercise cannot shift.

Pregnancy changes the body in ways that are often permanent without surgical intervention. The abdominal muscles separate (diastasis recti), breast volume deflates or drops, excess skin gathers around the midsection, and fat accumulates in previously lean areas. A mommy makeover restores the body you had before children, or achieves the silhouette you always wanted but pregnancy made impossible.

At MedProper Istanbul, mommy makeovers are among our most popular combination procedures. The logic is straightforward: combining procedures into a single surgical session saves you a second general anaesthetic, a second flight, a second recovery period and thousands of pounds.

In 2026, mommy makeover surgery at MedProper starts from £4,500 all-inclusive — a fraction of the £10,000 to £18,000 typically quoted by private clinics in the United Kingdom. Every package includes hospital stay, surgeon fees, anaesthesia, medication, compression garments, airport transfers and five-star hotel accommodation in central Istanbul.

What Procedures Are Included?

A mommy makeover is not a single operation with a fixed definition. It is a bespoke surgical plan built around your specific concerns. At MedProper, your surgeon designs the combination that gives you the best possible result in the safest way. Below are the core procedures that make up the majority of mommy makeover plans.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

The tummy tuck is the foundation of almost every mommy makeover. Pregnancy stretches the abdominal skin and separates the rectus abdominis muscles along the midline. Even women who return to their pre-pregnancy weight often cannot flatten their lower abdomen because the muscles have physically separated.

During abdominoplasty, your surgeon removes excess skin between the navel and the pubic area, tightens the underlying muscle wall with internal sutures and repositions the belly button. The result is a firmer, flatter abdomen with a low horizontal scar within the bikini line.

Frequently Asked Questions (23)

What is included in a mommy makeover?

A customised combination typically including a tummy tuck, breast procedure (lift, augmentation or reduction) and liposuction. Optional additions include BBL, labiaplasty or arm lift.

How much does a mommy makeover cost in Turkey in 2026?

At MedProper, prices start from £4,500 for tummy tuck plus breast lift, rising to £6,200 for a comprehensive package with tummy tuck, breast augmentation with lift and liposuction. All prices are all-inclusive.

Is it safe to have multiple procedures at once?

Yes, provided anaesthesia time stays within safe limits (five to six hours) and procedures are performed by an experienced team in an accredited hospital. Combining procedures means one anaesthetic instead of two or three.

MedProper offers several tummy tuck variations:

  • Full tummy tuck — addresses the entire abdominal wall from the ribcage to the pubic bone
  • Mini tummy tuck — focuses on the area below the navel only, with a shorter scar
  • Extended tummy tuck — wraps the incision around the flanks for patients with excess skin on the sides
  • 360-degree tummy tuck — a circumferential approach that addresses the front, sides and lower back

Breast Lift, Augmentation or Reduction

After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts commonly lose volume, sag or become asymmetrical. The breast component is tailored to your goals:

  • Breast lift (mastopexy) — removes excess skin and repositions the nipple to a higher position. Ideal for women happy with their size but unhappy with drooping.
  • Breast augmentation — places silicone implants to restore lost volume or increase cup size. MedProper uses Mentor and Motiva implants with a lifetime warranty.
  • Breast augmentation with lift — combines implants with a lift for women who have lost volume and experienced significant sagging. This is the most popular breast option in our mommy makeover patients.
  • Breast reduction — removes excess tissue and skin for women whose post-pregnancy breast size causes back pain, shoulder grooving or discomfort. The result is a lighter, lifted and proportionate bust.

Liposuction

Liposuction targets localised fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. In a mommy makeover, it refines the waistline, flanks, inner thighs, arms or back — areas that abdominoplasty alone cannot reach.

MedProper uses VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) technology, which breaks down fat cells with ultrasound before gentle aspiration. VASER offers smoother results, less bruising and faster recovery than traditional liposuction.

Common liposuction areas in a mommy makeover:

  • Flanks and love handles
  • Upper and lower back (bra-line fat)
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Submental area (double chin)

Optional Add-Ons (BBL, Labiaplasty, Arm Lift)

  • Brazilian butt lift (BBL) — fat harvested during liposuction is purified and injected into the buttocks for a fuller shape. An increasingly popular addition that makes excellent use of fat already being removed.
  • Labiaplasty — addresses changes to the labia that can occur after vaginal delivery. Many women experience elongation or asymmetry of the labia minora, which can cause discomfort during exercise or intimacy. Combining labiaplasty with a mommy makeover avoids a separate procedure and recovery period.
  • Arm lift (brachioplasty) — removes excess hanging skin from the upper arms. Many mothers notice that the upper arms are one of the last areas to respond to weight loss.
  • Thigh lift — tightens the inner or outer thighs for patients with loose skin after significant weight fluctuation during pregnancy.

Customising Your Mommy Makeover

Every mommy makeover at MedProper begins with a detailed free virtual consultation. During your video call, you will discuss:

  1. Your specific concerns — which areas bother you most and what result you hope for
  2. Your medical history — previous surgeries, pregnancies, breastfeeding status, medications and BMI
  3. Procedure selection — which combination achieves your goals safely in a single session
  4. Realistic expectations — what surgery can and cannot achieve
  5. Budget and packages — a transparent, all-inclusive quote with no hidden fees

Your surgeon may recommend staging certain procedures across two sessions if combining everything would exceed a safe anaesthesia time (generally five to six hours). Patient safety always takes priority at MedProper.

Many patients book as a pair. Our best friends dual package allows two patients to share a hotel suite, coordinate surgery dates and recover together. This is especially popular with mothers who find it easier to arrange childcare and travel with a companion.

The Turkish market for mommy makeovers ranges from £4,200 to £9,500 depending on clinic, surgeon and procedure combination. MedProper sits at the quality end — JCI-accredited facilities, board-certified surgeons and premium implant brands at a fraction of UK costs.

Even at the upper end of our pricing with flights added, a mommy makeover at MedProper costs less than the surgeon fee alone at many UK private clinics.

Why is it so much cheaper? The cost difference is not a reflection of quality. It is driven by lower operating costs in Turkey (staff salaries, hospital overheads, property costs), favourable exchange rates and the sheer volume of cosmetic procedures performed in Istanbul — which creates economies of scale. MedProper performs hundreds of combination procedures each year, using the same implant brands, the same anaesthesia protocols and the same safety standards as leading European hospitals.

Does the NHS fund mommy makeovers? No. The NHS does not fund cosmetic surgery for post-pregnancy body changes. In exceptional cases, the NHS may fund an abdominoplasty if there is a documented medical need (such as severe skin infections caused by excess abdominal skin), but this is extremely rare and typically involves waiting lists of two years or more. Breast procedures and liposuction are not covered under any circumstances. For the vast majority of UK mothers, the choice is between paying privately in the UK or travelling to Turkey for a fraction of the cost.

Am I a Good Candidate?

The ideal candidate:

  • Has finished having children (or is confident there will be no more)
  • Has stopped breastfeeding for at least six months
  • Is at or near a stable weight (within 5–10 kg of target)
  • Does not smoke, or will stop at least six weeks before and after surgery
  • Has no uncontrolled medical conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, clotting disorders)
  • Has specific concerns related to pregnancy — loose abdominal skin, separated muscles, breast deflation, stubborn fat deposits

A mommy makeover is not recommended if you are planning further pregnancies, currently breastfeeding, have a BMI above 35, or have medical conditions that increase surgical risk.

When to Wait (Breastfeeding, Future Pregnancies, Weight)

Breastfeeding: Wait at least six months after fully stopping breastfeeding before breast surgery. During breastfeeding, breast tissue is engorged and the hormonal environment alters skin elasticity. Operating on breasts that have not yet settled into their post-nursing shape leads to less predictable results. The six-month window allows your breasts to reach their stable post-nursing size so your surgeon can plan accurately.

Future pregnancies: If you are planning more children, it is strongly advisable to wait. A subsequent pregnancy will stretch the abdominal skin and muscles again, potentially reversing tummy tuck results. Breast changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding will also affect any breast procedure outcome. While a future pregnancy will not damage your health, it will likely compromise your aesthetic result and may require revision surgery.

Weight stability: Be at a stable weight for at least three to six months before surgery. Significant weight loss after a tummy tuck can create new loose skin. Significant weight gain can stretch the repaired muscles and expand remaining fat cells. Aim to be within 5–10 kg of your long-term maintainable weight.

Ideal Timing After Your Last Child

Most surgeons recommend waiting at least 6 to 12 months after delivery (or after stopping breastfeeding, whichever is later). This allows your uterus to return to normal size, hormonal levels to stabilise, abdominal skin to retract naturally and breast tissue to settle.

There is no upper time limit. Many of our patients at MedProper have their mommy makeover years or even decades after their last child. The procedure works just as well whether your youngest is one year old or fifteen.

Recovery Timeline: Week by Week

TimeframeWhat to Expect
Week 1Swelling, bruising, tightness and moderate discomfort. Pain managed with medication. Walking with a slight stoop. Help needed with daily tasks. Drains removed day 3–5.
Week 2Bruising fading. Swelling peaks then gradually reduces. Careful showering permitted. Light domestic activity manageable. No lifting heavier than a kettle.
Week 3–4Significant improvement in comfort and mobility. Driving short distances possible (check with insurer). Walking 20–30 minutes. No heavy lifting. Compression garments worn 24 hours a day.
Week 5–6Most patients return to desk-based work. Light exercise resumes (walking, gentle cycling). Breast swelling settling.
Week 8–12Most restrictions lifted. Gym, swimming and sports resume. Scars pink but maturing. Breast implants beginning to settle.
Month 3–6Swelling fully resolves. Scars fading from pink to pale. Final results becoming visible.
Month 6–12Final results. Scars flat and pale. Implants fully settled. Most patients report this is when they feel the full benefit.

Key recovery rules:

  • Wear your compression garment for a minimum of six weeks, 24 hours a day (remove only for showering)
  • Sleep on your back, slightly elevated, for the first four weeks
  • No smoking for at least six weeks before and after surgery
  • No heavy lifting (over 5 kg) for six weeks — this includes toddlers
  • Stay hydrated and eat a protein-rich diet to support healing
  • Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments, whether in person or via video call

When Can I Fly Home?

Most patients are cleared to fly seven to ten days after surgery. Your surgeon decides based on drain removal, absence of complications, your comfort sitting upright for three and a half hours (Istanbul to London) and ability to walk through the airport.

Tips for flying after a mommy makeover:

  • Book an aisle seat so you can stand and walk in the aisle every 30 to 45 minutes
  • Wear your compression garments and loose, comfortable clothing
  • Take prescribed blood-thinning medication (usually low-molecular-weight heparin injections) as directed to reduce DVT risk
  • Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water during the flight
  • Avoid carrying heavy bags — have your companion or airport assistance service handle luggage
  • Consider booking wheelchair or special assistance through your airline for a more comfortable airport experience

Childcare Planning: Practical Advice for Mothers

One of the biggest logistical challenges is arranging childcare. You will be away for approximately 10 days and need significant help for two to four weeks after returning.

Before you travel:

  • Arrange full-time childcare for 10 days — partner, grandparents, siblings or a trusted friend
  • Batch cook and freeze meals for your family
  • Brief your children (depending on age) that Mummy is going on a short trip
  • Ensure school, nursery and activity providers have emergency contacts for your carer

When you return home:

  • No lifting children for six weeks — plan for someone to lift toddlers into cots, car seats and high chairs
  • Accept help — the first two weeks at home are the most demanding
  • Recovery is your priority; lower your housekeeping standards
  • Ensure you have stopped breastfeeding well before surgery if having breast work

Travelling with a companion: Many patients travel with a friend, sister or partner. A companion helps at the hotel, accompanies you to appointments and provides emotional support. Our best friends dual package is designed for two patients travelling together.

Will a Mommy Makeover Remove Stretch Marks?

The answer depends on location.

Below the belly button: A tummy tuck physically removes the skin between the navel and pubic area. Stretch marks on this skin are permanently eliminated. For many mothers, this is where the majority of pregnancy stretch marks sit.

Above the belly button: Not removed by a standard tummy tuck, but the skin is pulled downward, shifting upper stretch marks to a lower, less visible position.

On the breasts: Breast surgery does not remove stretch marks but can improve their appearance by tightening skin and restoring volume.

On hips and thighs: Not affected unless a thigh lift is included.

Remaining stretch marks: After full healing (six months post-surgery), non-surgical treatments such as microneedling, fractional CO2 laser or PRP therapy can improve texture and colour. These can be arranged at MedProper during a follow-up visit or with a UK dermatologist.

Is a Mommy Makeover Safe in Turkey?

Yes — when performed at an accredited hospital by a board-certified plastic surgeon, a mommy makeover in Turkey is as safe as the same procedure in the UK or Germany.

Turkey is the fourth most popular destination in the world for medical tourism, with over 1.2 million international patients annually. Istanbul alone has more than 50 JCI-accredited hospitals — more than any other European city.

MedProper safety credentials:

  • JCI accreditation — the gold standard in international healthcare quality
  • Board-certified surgeons — certified by the Turkish Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and members of ISAPS
  • European-standard theatres — full anaesthesia monitoring and emergency equipment
  • Dedicated intensive care unit — available on-site
  • Your surgeon operates — not a trainee or junior doctor

  • Your surgeon is available 24/7 and will assess you immediately
  • Further surgery during your trip is performed at no additional charge
  • Extended hospital stays due to complications are covered

After you return home:

  • 12-month aftercare includes video consultations at no extra charge
  • Our team provides your UK doctor or A&E with a full surgical report and surgeon contact details
  • Revision surgery within 12 months for surgical complications is covered by MedProper (you cover return flights and accommodation)

  • Keep all MedProper documentation (surgical report, discharge summary, medication list) in an accessible folder
  • Register with your GP within one week of returning home and provide them with your surgical report
  • Do not hesitate to contact our WhatsApp team at any time — there is no question too small

Risks and Complications

All surgery carries inherent risks. Being fully informed is essential.

General surgical risks:

  • Adverse reaction to general anaesthesia (rare, approximately 1 in 10,000)
  • Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism) — risk is minimised with compression stockings, early mobilisation and blood-thinning injections
  • Infection — approximately 1–3%, managed with prophylactic antibiotics
  • Bleeding or haematoma — may require drainage or a return to the operating theatre
  • Delayed wound healing — more common in smokers and patients with diabetes

Tummy tuck specific risks:

  • Seroma (fluid collection under the skin) — the most common tummy tuck complication, occurring in approximately 5–10% of cases, usually resolved with needle aspiration
  • Skin necrosis (tissue death) — rare, more likely in smokers
  • Numbness around the lower abdomen — very common and usually temporary, though some patients experience permanent reduced sensation
  • Unfavourable scarring — keloid or hypertrophic scars can occur, particularly in patients with a genetic predisposition

Breast surgery specific risks:

  • Capsular contracture — scar tissue around an implant tightens and hardens (approximately 5–10% over 10 years)
  • Implant rupture or malposition — may require revision surgery
  • Changes in nipple sensation — temporary in most cases, permanent in a small percentage
  • Asymmetry — minor differences between sides are normal; significant asymmetry may require revision

Liposuction specific risks:

  • Contour irregularities (lumps or dents) — can occur if fat removal is uneven
  • Skin laxity — if skin elasticity is poor, liposuction may leave loose skin
  • Fluid imbalance — managed with intravenous fluids during and after surgery

Your MedProper surgeon discusses all relevant risks during consultation and obtains fully informed written consent.

Before and After Results

MedProper maintains an extensive gallery of before and after photographs from mommy makeover patients who have given written consent.

When reviewing photos:

  • Photographs are taken at 6–12 months post-surgery when final results are visible
  • Every patient is different — results depend on anatomy, skin quality and procedures performed
  • Scars are visible in early photos but mature and fade significantly over 12–18 months
  • All photos are taken under standardised lighting and posture conditions

Request photos during your free virtual consultation. Your coordinator can show results from patients with a similar body type and procedure combination.

How long does mommy makeover surgery take?

A typical mommy makeover takes between four and six hours, depending on the number and complexity of procedures included. Your surgeon provides a more precise estimate during your consultation.

How many nights do I need in Istanbul?

We recommend a minimum stay of 7 to 10 nights. This allows time for your pre-operative consultation, surgery, hospital recovery and two to three post-operative check-ups before you fly home.

When can I return to work after a mommy makeover?

Most patients return to desk-based or light work within three to four weeks. Physically demanding jobs may require six to eight weeks off. We recommend planning for four weeks away from work to ensure a comfortable recovery.

Will I have visible scars?

Yes. A tummy tuck leaves a horizontal bikini-line scar and a small scar around the navel. Breast scars vary by technique. All scars fade significantly over 12–18 months and are designed to sit within underwear and swimwear.

Can I get a mommy makeover on the NHS?

No. The NHS does not fund cosmetic surgery for post-pregnancy changes. An abdominoplasty may be approved in very rare cases for documented medical need, but with waiting lists of two years or more.

How long do results last?

Tummy tuck results are permanent (removed skin does not regrow). Breast implants may need replacing after 10–15 years. Liposuction results are permanent in treated areas, though weight gain can cause fat to appear in untreated areas.

Is Turkey cheaper than the UK for a mommy makeover?

Yes. UK prices range from £10,000 to £18,000 (excluding hotel). MedProper starts from £4,500 all-inclusive. Even with flights, you save 50–70 percent.

What implant brands does MedProper use?

Mentor (Johnson and Johnson) and Motiva (Establishment Labs). Both are FDA-approved and CE-marked with manufacturer lifetime warranties.

Can I combine a BBL with my mommy makeover?

Yes. A Brazilian butt lift is one of the most popular additions. The fat harvested during liposuction is purified and injected into the buttocks and hips, making excellent use of fat that would otherwise be discarded. Adding a BBL means avoiding sitting directly on your buttocks for two to three weeks post-surgery.

How do I choose the right surgeon for a mommy makeover in Turkey?

Look for a surgeon who is board-certified in plastic surgery (not general surgery), is a member of ISAPS, operates in a JCI-accredited hospital, and can show you verified before-and-after results from similar cases. At MedProper, all surgeons meet these criteria.

What is the difference between a tummy tuck and liposuction?

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens the abdominal muscles. Liposuction removes fat. They address different problems and are often complementary — a tummy tuck alone will not remove fat from the flanks, and liposuction alone will not tighten loose skin or repair separated muscles. In a mommy makeover, they are frequently combined for the best result.

How soon after a C-section can I have a mommy makeover?

Wait at least 12 months. A tummy tuck typically removes the C-section scar along with excess lower abdominal skin.

Will a mommy makeover help with diastasis recti?

Yes. Muscle separation is directly repaired with internal sutures during the tummy tuck, restoring core strength and a flatter profile.

Can I travel with my children to Istanbul?

We do not recommend bringing young children. You will not be able to care for them during your hospital stay or early recovery, and having children present creates stress when you need to rest. If your partner is travelling with you, they should be focused on supporting your recovery rather than looking after children.

What happens at the free virtual consultation?

A video call with a patient coordinator and consulting surgeon. You discuss goals, medical history and concerns, share photographs, and receive a personalised treatment plan and all-inclusive quote within 24–48 hours.

Can I have a mommy makeover if I am overweight?

BMI should ideally be below 30. Patients with BMI 30–35 are considered case by case. BMI above 35 significantly increases risk and weight loss is recommended first.

Do I need to stop the contraceptive pill before surgery?

Combined pills increase clot risk. Stop four to six weeks before surgery. Progesterone-only pills are generally safe to continue.

What is the best time of year for a mommy makeover in Istanbul?

Any time works. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the mildest temperatures. Summer can be hot for wearing compression garments.

Can two friends have surgery at the same time?

Yes. Our best friends dual package lets two patients share accommodation, coordinate surgery dates (typically one day apart) and recover together.
