Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that adds bone material to areas of the jaw where natural bone has been lost due to tooth extraction, gum disease, or trauma. Adequate bone volume is essential for successful dental implant placement, and grafting rebuilds the foundation needed. - 1A CBCT scan precisely measures the bone deficiency and determines the volume and type of graft material required.
- 2Under local anaesthesia, the deficient area is accessed through a gum flap.
- 3Bone graft particles (1cc per unit) are carefully placed into the defect and contoured to the desired shape.
- 4A resorbable barrier membrane may be placed over the graft to protect it and guide bone regeneration (quoted separately).
- 5The site is sutured closed. Over 4-6 months, the graft integrates and transforms into your own natural bone.
