A gum graft (soft tissue graft) is a surgical procedure that takes tissue from one area of the mouth (usually the palate) and transplants it to an area of gum recession, rebuilding the gum line and protecting exposed tooth roots. Gum recession can cause sensitivity, aesthetic concerns, and increased cavity risk. At MedProper Istanbul, gum grafts are performed by periodontists experienced in both connective tissue and free gingival graft techniques.
A successful gum graft covers exposed roots, eliminating sensitivity and reducing the risk of root cavities.
Rebuilding the gum line restores a natural, youthful appearance, especially important for visible front teeth.
The grafted tissue creates a thicker, more resilient gum that resists further recession.
At EUR 850 per jaw at MedProper, gum grafting covers multiple recession sites in one surgery at a transparent, predictable cost.
Days 1-3
Donor and Recipient Healing
The palate (donor site) may feel sore and tender. The graft site should not be disturbed. Soft, cool foods only. Pain medication is prescribed.
Days 4-10
Early Integration
The graft changes from white to pink as blood supply establishes. Avoid brushing the graft site. Use prescribed antimicrobial rinse.
Weeks 2-6
Full Maturation
The graft integrates with surrounding tissue. Gum colour normalises. Gently resume brushing the area. Final results are visible at 6-8 weeks.

The procedure itself is painless under local anaesthesia. The palate donor site is often the most uncomfortable part of recovery, typically feeling like a pizza-burn for a few days. Prescribed pain medication manages this effectively.
Multiple adjacent recession sites can be treated in one surgery. The per-jaw pricing covers all recession sites in that jaw.
With proper oral hygiene and a gentle brushing technique, gum grafts provide lasting results. Your periodontist will advise on toothbrush type and technique to protect the graft long-term.
In some cases, acellular dermal matrix (donor tissue material) can be used instead of palate tissue, eliminating the palate wound. Your surgeon will discuss whether this option is appropriate for your case.
Yes. Gum grafts are often combined with scaling and root planing, crown lengthening, or implant procedures during the same Istanbul visit.
